Sure does.

Unless you're a complete spastic and decide to put Areola and YarmLOLenkLOL in it.

Nine of the team pick themselves.... Johnson and Areola have given Moyes a selection quandary with their recent performances. Happy days when we've got to pick between players on top form to fill a position rather than having to select the least worst option!

Nips is making his point, but is not there yet.

Yarmalenko currently exists to give Antonio a rest.

I think better bait would have been Arthur M maybe?

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Areola is really breathing down Fabianski's neck, but it's rarely a good idea to replace someone who's doing a good job.

Even if their replacement is likely to equal them.

If Fabianski gets injured, this will work in Areola's favour, I'm sure - I wouldn't expect Fabianski to be back until Areola's injured, or has bad form.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Hard to drop Johnson. I'd probably start him against Villa and Genk and bring Coufal back again Pool. Then there's Ryan Fredericks. It's been a long while since we've had three right-backs as good as that.

I'd probably start Areola, as he'll be high on confidence after that. Fab back for Genk.

For the rest of the team I'd pick the usual PL first eleven.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Fabianski has kept clean sheets in his last two league games and was brilliant v Spurs.

no chance will he be dropped.

Did I read somewhere that we're yet to concede a goal with Johnson in the side?

Anyone suggesting starting Yarmo needs to give their head a wobble.

I would expect him to be first out the door in January.

non-one is seriously suggesting Yarmolenko......... aside from the village idiot Faux Bare who seems to have taken double his medication today.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Vexed, yep. 6 starts, 6 clean sheets for Johnson. Only 6 games but that includes Man City, Man Utd, Everton and Spurs. He's a very good defender but he's quite lacking in the attacking third, unlike Coufal.

Moyes will go with the team that beat Spurs. And why not?

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Johnson has done great but 4 games on the bounce in the first team will have taken lots from his legs.

Coufal comes back in for me as he also offers more going forward.

We also have no cover for Cresswell, Johnson can do that job so another reason to give him a breather.

Taking nothing away from Ben he’s been outstanding and over the moon for him, this run of games will have done him the world of good but Europa league and cup games.

Fab has done nothing wrong, he was great v Spurs, he won’t be dropped but Areola is also looking great. What a nice problem for Moyes to have.

Swims past the Yarmalenko shout.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Firstly can we have Exile posting this , he gives good reasing for his selection . This knob makes Vexed look conjective.

Yarmo shouldn't even be on the bench.
We have better youngsters who could offer more.

Fab has earnt his place as he has stepped up. A poor performance will mean Areola will step in, it hasn't happended quite yet.

Fab
Johnson Zouma Ogbonna Cresswell
Rice Soucek
Fornals Benrhama Bowen
Antonio

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Strongest possible team. I'll go with what daveyg went for.

We have the luxury of being able to rest a couple of players against Genk, and the luxury of having rested several against Man City.

Re: Team for Aston Villa - Premier League
Its getting more difficult to pick the best team which is a good sign?. IMO Johnson keeps the right back slot and is now first choice based on form but he has played a lot of games and in the modern game its about squads and rotation especially while we are in all competitions . But with Coufal only just coming back and Fredericks also without many minutes after returning from injury I opt to stick with Johnson and he's young and can handle it?. Cresswell at 31 has been playing as many games. Not so sure about him in that sense but we don't really have any other options and a player who I thought was on the decline not so long back, is now arguably our most creative player so has to play.

The only other position for debate is goalkeeper. Nips was excellent last night but Moyes will almost certainly revert to Fab.
